This device allows non-wifi network devices to join an existing wifi network using the 802.11b/g/n wifi standards. The attached cable is for the power supply and ethernet cable (to run to your non-wireless network device). This was originally created for earlier TiVo models that didn't have wifi built in, but had an ethernet port instead. Note that the theoretical maximum speed of 802.11n is 54 Mbps.
