Now this drop dead gorgeous Martin Handcraft wasproduced just on the cusp ofthe introduction of the Handcraft Committee model, and is nearly identical to the first version of the Committee, with Deco detailing and the lion and crown on the bell. Besides some minor cosmetic variations, both instruments share the same geometry, with the distinctive, reversed & tapered tuning slide, and wide bell throat. In terms of the air column and design, this is a Handcraft Committee.

This example is in EXCEPTIONAL condition, with almost no play wear. Light speckling of the original lacquer is the most notable sign of age. The horn, however, has minimal play wear, with clean and fresh looking slides, interior surfaces, and most importantly valves. The valves on this horn are supple, slick, and seal like the International Space Station. Drawing either the first or third valve slides results in a hiss that lasts for over 6 seconds. Compression that rivals a Schilke or Yamaha actually.

The tone of this horn... All I can say is that with eyes closed, it is a Committee. No questions asked, a perfect Handcraft Committee voice- warm, lush and lovely. An amazing horn. This is what this instrument sounded like when it was new in 1940, and quite frankly it still looks kind of new.

Have a careful listen below to Kevin Dean playing a similarly clean Handcraft Committee. I sold the trumpet in the film for $4600 (yes it's a normal medium #2 bore) to a very happy collector. This Handraft Imperial sounds just like the Committee.
