Listing Update...This is not so much an update as it is a brief comment about the computers and related parts I have available for sale. Personal computers (and in particular desktop computers) have always been a hobby of mine. I've enjoyed tinkering with this stuff over the years and have accumulated a number of items during this time...some new and some used. I am not an expert on the subject...more of an enthusiast...but I will still do my best to answer any questions as it relates to my computer related listings. Thank you.

Original Listing...
This offering is for a new (open box) value pack of four (4) ARCTIC P12 PWM/PST case fans that measure 120 mm and are black in color. These are probably among my favorite case fans and I don't know that I have ever come across a bad review. There are certainly better case fans available, but probably not at this price point. For those that may not be familiar with the PWM acronym, it stands for "pulse width modulation", which means this fan has a four pin connector and the extra wire allows for a pulse signal that may be manipulated to control fan speed. This pulse signal (and ultimately the fan speed) is managed by the motherboard through the fan's on/off frequency. Said another way, a PWM fan speed is controlled by rapidly turning on and off its power at a high frequency. The "on" time (or pulse width) effectively determines the fan speed, with a longer "on" time increasing the fan speed. Not surprisingly, a shorter "on" time will decrease the fan speed. It's also worth noting the power on/off effect is seamless to the naked eye, because of the high frequency in which this occurs. In other words, the change in fan speed under "pulse width modulation" is smooth and dependent on relevant thermal readings. PST is the other acronym that is short for "PWM sharing technology", which is a fancy way of saying there is one male and one female connector on each fan wire that will allow for up to five (5) of these fans to be daisy chained together. In other words, a motherboard can power and regulate up to five (5) of these fans from one PWM fan header.

It's probably also worth noting that ARCTIC makes two different types of case fans, "P" series and "F" series. Their "F" series fans are designed primarily to generate steady airflow in an environment with little resistance. So these fans are ideal for use in well ventilated cases where airflow is easily created/redirected. On the other hand "P" series fans are designed to generate high static pressure, which makes them ideal for use with air (tower) coolers, radiators, dust filters, etc. In other words, anytime you need a fan to push/pull air to/from an area with some resistance, then a "P" series fan is preferable. This is not to say you cannot use a "P" series fan as a general case fan (in a case) that is well designed to promote good airflow, but its probably not necessary (as "P" series fans tend to be a little more expensive). Just to be clear, this offering is for a value pack of "P" series fans.

As is the case with many of my computer related purchases, I accumulated a number of fans over the last few years for new computer builds. Although, the bicycle parts business has me overwhelmed at the moment and I just don't have much time to build new computers. So I thought I would make some of these case fans available to someone else that may need them before I would get around to using them.

Having said all of the above, I thought it might also be helpful if I shared a spec. sheet of sorts that highlights some of the primary fan features:

  • Fan Type: PWM

  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 120 mm x 120 mm x 25 mm

  • Bearing Type: Hydro / Fluid

  • LED Type: Not applicable

  • Fan speed: 1400 +/- 200 RPM (max)

  • Fan airflow: 60.4 CFM (max)

  • Fan noise (max): 12.1 to 34.5 +/- 10%dB(A)

  • Fan connector: 4-pin PWM

  • Air pressure: 1.29 mmH2O (max)

  • Lifespan: 40,000 hours

  • Rated Voltage: DC 12 V

In terms of condition, this is a new (open box) value pack of four (4) fans that will be shipped in its original retail packaging with all the mounting hardware (standard fan case screws). I am calling this an "open box" offering because these value packs originally come with five (5) fans and I've used one of these fans in a customer build (so there are just the four (4) fans left in the package). Additionally, two of the four fans in this package were mounted in a new computer for a customer that later changed his mind (and decided he wanted fans with LEDs). So these two fans were removed from the new computer and put back in their original packaging. So just to be clear, two of the fans in this packaging have never been removed or used and the other two were briefly installed in a new computer build and then removed. I don't know if the latter were ever powered up in the new computer build (for stress testing purposes). I just don't remember, but even if they were, we are only talking about a handful of burn-time hours, sot still effectively new fans. I should also mention the original retail packaging is nothing special and is a bit shopworn, but the four (4) remaining fans are still packed well and secure in this packaging. Finally, I want to confirm that I will pack this value packs of fans in a shipping box (so a box within a box) to ensure safe transit.

Note to international customers regarding shipping...
We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case.

Note to international customers regarding customs...
We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning sale offers (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly aoffere by them.
