English:

I found that the processor of my Atari Mega STE was hot when I touched it with my finger! Even though he was at rest, meaning no program was working at that time. I had set the system clock to 8 MHz, therefore the lower value compared to the 16 MHz supported by my Atari. So I did a further test, setting the system clock to 16 Mhz, with a cyclical 3D graphics program (in order to always keep the CPU fully engaged), and positioning a temperature probe above the Motorola 68000. I tried so I touched the microprocessor at that moment and I was about to get burned. The temperature was about 84 degrees C.

I posted this test on a popular forum and someone told me it was normal, and that the CPU was designed for these operating temperatures.

I worked for 20 years in an electronics company, where I repaired brushless motors and electronic boards; I also drew up the datasheets of some electronic components. I must say that most of the problems I encountered were due to the excessive heat that some components gave off (despite the thermal characteristics being normal).

From this experience I thought of equipping my Ataris (Mega STE, Mega ST and Falcon) with a heat sink with one of these (see assembly details later) that I put up for sale. As glue to connect the microprocessor to the heatsink, I used a square of conductive/thermal silicone to facilitate heat dispersion, the exact size of the on what you select in thedrop-down menu you will receive:

Kit #1 - Black heat sink and heat conductive adhesive only.

Metal heatsink only 40 x 40 mm (thickness 11 mm. + 1 mm. for the silicone support, see photo) + thermal/conductive silicone glue support to attach the heatsink to the microprocessor. It is suitable for Atari Mega STE, TT and Atari Mega ST. Check if your Atari has any special modifications that do not allow the application.

Kit #2 - Fan + Black cast heatsink + thermally conductive adhesive + connection cables.

Black metal heatsink with +5V cooling fan. (thickness 22 mm. + 1 mm. for the silicone support) + support thermal/conductive silicone glue to attach the heatsink to the microprocessor + cables to connect the cooling fan to the internal circuit (I have provided an extra output if you also have a second Floppy drive or a Hard Disk, see photo). It is suitable for Atari Mega STE and TT. Check if your Atari has any special modifications that do not allow the application.

Kit #3 - Copper colored heatsink with integrated fan + thermally conductive adhesive + connection cables.

Copper-colored metal heatsink incorporating a +5V or +12V cooling fan. (thickness 10 mm. + 1 mm. for the silicone support) + support thermal/conductive silicone glue to attach the heatsink to the microprocessor + cables to connect the cooling fan to the internal circuit (I have provided an extra output if you also have a second Floppy drive or a Hard Disk, see photo). It is suitable for Atari Mega STE and TT. Check if your Atari has any special modifications that do not allow the application.

Kit #4 - Copper colored heatsink and thermally conductive adhesive.

Only metal heatsink 39 x 39 mm in copper color (thickness 10 mm. + 1 mm. for the silicone support, see photo) + thermal/conductive silicone glue support to attach the heatsink to the microprocessor. It is suitable for all Ataris, in particular ST/STE and Falcon, as the heatsink has a reduced thickness and also allows the assembly of the metal shielding. The example photo shows an Atari Falcon. In any case, check if your Atari has particular modifications that do not allow assembly.

Before purchasing, check that the space above your microprocessor allows the insertion of the metal heatsink (see photo with the gauge for each item).

Nonostante era a riposo, ovvero nessun programma in quel momento stava funzionando.

Kit #1 - Solo dissipatore nero e adesivo termoconduttivo.

Solo dissipatore metallico 40 x 40 mm (spessore 11 mm.

Kit #4- Dissipatore color rame e adesivo termoconduttivo.
