The CMI8738 is the most cost effective solution for Retro Gaming sound in modern motherboards! Most PCI sound cards will not function correctly in DOS on post-2005 modern motherboards. The only exceptions to this are the Yamaha YMF PCI series (nowrare and thus quite expensive), Aureal (often does not fully work in DOS) and the CMI8738 cards.
The CMI8738 cards also usually do not fully function in DOS onmany modern motherboards with the standard factory drivers. We therefore now include the SBEMU DOS driver package with our drivers CD.(Thanks Craziii! Please visit the VogonsSBEMUthread for more details about SBEMU)* Please note that theSBEMU driver requires manual configuration and the use of the FreeDOS JEMM memory manager to function.
