Seagate Exos X16 ST14000NM001G — 14TB SATA Enterprise Hard Drive
Serial ZL2H9T36 | Helium-sealed CMR | 7200 RPM | 512e
Tested here, and the screenshot is of THIS drive. The second photo is the CrystalDiskInfo readout for this exact unit with its serial number visible, so you can check every value yourself before you buy. Health Status reads GOOD with zero reallocated sectors, zero pending sectors and zero uncorrectable sectors.WHY THIS DRIVE
- 14TB of enterprise CMR — conventional recording, not SMR. Safe for NAS, RAID, ZFS, Unraid and write-heavy work, where SMR drives stall and drop out of arrays.
- Exos is Seagate's datacenter line — helium-sealed, 7200 RPM, rated for 24/7 operation and far higher workloads than any desktop drive.
- 256MB cache and a full SATA 6 Gb/s interface.
- 512e sector format, verified on the bench — it is seen as a standard 512-byte-sector drive, so there is none of the 4Kn compatibility trouble with older BIOS and RAID controllers.
- Pulled from a working environment, powered down cleanly, and documented drive by drive.

Seagate reports Read Error Rate and Seek Error Rate as composite values, so their raw columns show numbers in the millions even on a perfectly healthy drive — they pack a count of operations together with a count of corrected events, and they are not a defect count. Judge those two by the normalized Current value against its Threshold, which is what the Health Status is based on. The counters that actually matter for a used drive are Reallocated, Pending and Uncorrectable sectors — the ones that count real defects on the platters — and on this unit all three are zero. The UltraDMA CRC error count is zero as well.

DATA
All partitions were removed and the drive was then initialized GPT and formatted as one full-size exFAT volume named "New Volume", so it shows up and is ready to use the moment you plug it in. No previous data is accessible. Cleared and tested — this was not a multi-pass secure erase, so if your policy requires a certified wipe, run your own.
GOOD TO KNOW
This model carries Seagate Secure, so there is a PSID printed on the label. The drive ships unlocked with no password set and behaves as an ordinary SATA drive — it was cleared, partitioned and formatted on a standard USB dock with no unlock step of any kind. The encryption features are there if you ever want them and are simply dormant otherwise.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
One bare 3.5 inch hard drive, exactly as photographed. No cables, caddy, mounting screws or software are included.
SHIPPING
Free USPS Ground Advantage, shipped from Illinois. The drive travels in an anti-static bag inside a padded box, and its label is photographed with the serial visible immediately before it is packed.
NOTES ON WEAR
This is a used enterprise drive with 28,974 power-on hours, 35 power cycles and 17,192 load/unload cycles. Hours of that order are normal for a drive that spent its life spinning continuously in a working environment, and continuous operation is far gentler on a drive than repeated start/stop cycling — the low power-cycle count shows it. Every media-defect counter — reallocated, pending and uncorrectable sectors — is zero, which is what actually predicts remaining life. The numbers are stated plainly here so you can judge for yourself.
RETURNS
Returns are not accepted. Please look over both photos and ask any question before buying — questions are welcome and answered quickly.
