Atari 9-Pin Joystick Adapter for Tandy / TRS-80 Color Computer / Dragon

Up for sale is a plug-and-play adapter that allows you to use a standard Atari-style 9-pin joystick with compatible Tandy, TRS-80 Color Computer, and Dragon computers.

No software or configuration is required. Simply connect the adapter and your joystick, and you're ready to play!

🎮 Compatible Systems

This adapter is designed for use with:

• TRS-80 Color Computer 1
• TRS-80 Color Computer 2
• TRS-80 Color Computer 3
• Tandy 1000
• Dragon 32
• Dragon 64

The Color Computer, Tandy, and Dragon systems use an analog joystick input, while standard Atari joysticks provide digital directional signals. This adapter converts those signals into the analog voltage levels required by the computer.

🔌 How It Works

The adapter accepts a standard Atari 9-pin joystick connector and converts the joystick's digital directional signals into the analog inputs required by the TRS-80 Color Computer and Dragon systems.

Internally, it uses two voltage-divider circuits — one for each joystick axis — to provide the appropriate analog signals to the computer.

🕹️ Two-Button Support

Some similar adapters only support a single-button controller.

This adapter can also support a second button when the controller is wired to provide the additional signal on pin 9 of the 9-pin connector.

Please note that the standard Atari joystick typically only uses one button, so the second-button feature requires a compatible controller.

🐉 Dragon 32 / 64 Compatibility

Dragon 32 and Dragon 64 computers use a 5-pin DIN joystick connection rather than the standard 9-pin connection.

Because of this, the adapter requires a small change to the connector for use with Dragon computers.

If you need an adapter specifically prepared for a Dragon 32/64, please send me a message when placing your order and I can provide one configured for the Dragon.

Please note: The Dragon setup does not provide a second-button connection, and the center pin must be removed for proper compatibility.

Each adapter includes a 3D-printed white enclosure and is assembled and tested by me in the USA.
