BDXL exists because standard Blu-ray tops out at 25 GB or 50 GB, and a100 GB write-once disc changes what optical archiving can practically hold -a full project folder, a camera card dump, or a long-form recording on onedisc rather than spread across four. Write-once media has a specificadvantage over hard drives and SSDs for archival storage: once written, thedata cannot be silently altered or encrypted by anything, and the disc needsno power to hold its contents.
The recording surface is rated for 2x to 4x writing. The label side is awide white inkjet printable surface covering an inner diameter of 22 mm outto 118 mm, so a printed design reaches almost the full disc face with aprintable-disc capable printer. "FOR VIDEO RECORDING" LABELLINGThe Japanese packaging designates these as recording-use discs. In Japanthis is a distinction relating to domestic broadcast recording and theprivate copying levy. It does NOT restrict the discs technically - theywrite ordinary data on any BDXL capable computer drive exactly asdata-labelled discs do. If you are buying them for data archiving, thislabelling makes no practical difference.

PRINTABLE SURFACE NEEDS A PRINTABLE-DISC PRINTERThe white label surface is designed for inkjet printers with disc printingcapability. It cannot be printed on a standard paper printer, and it is nota thermal or laser printable surface.
HANDLING AND STORAGEOptical media is sensitive to heat, humidity, and direct sunlight. Store thediscs upright in their cases, away from heat sources and out of directlight. Handle by the outer edge and centre hole, and never write on therecording side.
NO POWER REQUIREDThese are optical discs with no electrical components, so there are novoltage, plug, or power compatibility concerns.
JAPANESE DOMESTIC PACKAGINGThe packaging and any printed material are in Japanese only. The discsthemselves require no Japanese to use.
