WD140EDFZ — 14TB SATA Hard Drive

Model WD140EDFZ-11A0VA0 | Serial 9MG6KJKA | Helium-sealed CMR | 5400 RPM class

Tested here, and the screenshot is of THIS drive. The second photo is the CrystalDiskInfo readout for this exact unit with its serial number visible, so you can check every value yourself before you buy. Health Status reads GOOD with zero reallocated, pending, uncorrectable and CRC-error sectors, and the helium level still reads a full 100.WHY THIS DRIVE
  • 14TB of CMR — conventional recording, not SMR. Safe for NAS, RAID, ZFS, Unraid and write-heavy work, where SMR drives stall and drop out of arrays.
  • Helium-sealed — runs cool and quiet with low power draw.
  • 512 MB cache and a full SATA 6 Gb/s interface.
  • 512e sector format, verified on the bench — it is seen as a standard 512-byte-sector drive, so there is none of the 4Kn compatibility trouble with older BIOS and RAID controllers.
  • Pulled from a working environment, powered down cleanly, and documented drive by drive.

DATA

All partitions were removed and the drive was then initialized GPT and formatted as one full-size exFAT volume named "New Volume", so it shows up and is ready to use the moment you plug it in. No previous data is accessible. Cleared and tested — this was not a multi-pass secure erase, so if your policy requires a certified wipe, run your own.

GOOD TO KNOW

Some Western Digital white-label drives implement the SATA 3.3V pin-3 power-disable feature. If the drive does not spin up in your machine, it is not faulty — cover pin 3 of the SATA power connector with a small piece of Kapton tape, or use a Molex-to-SATA power adapter, and it will start normally. It runs fine as-is on most modern power supplies and USB docks.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

One bare 3.5 inch hard drive, exactly as photographed. No cables, caddy, mounting screws or software are included.

SHIPPING

Free USPS Ground Advantage, shipped from Illinois. The drive travels in an anti-static bag inside a padded box, and its label is photographed with the serial visible immediately before it is packed.

NOTES ON WEAR

This is a used enterprise drive with 30,764 power-on hours, 369 power cycles and 5,425 load/unload cycles. Hours of that order are normal for a drive that spent its life spinning continuously in a working environment, and continuous operation is far gentler on a drive than repeated start/stop cycling . Every damage-related counter is zero and the helium seal reads full, which is what actually predicts remaining life. The numbers are stated plainly here so you can judge for yourself.

RETURNS

Returns are not accepted. Please look over both photos and ask any question before buying — questions are welcome and answered quickly.
