Apple IIe (2e) Computer, Monitor, Drive, Cards - Recapped PSU Tested/Working
NOTE: There's a 24 image limit on , so I've combined some photos into collages in order to get as many into the listing as possible.
What's included in this listing:
- Apple IIe Computer A2S2064 (Motherboard is 820-0064-B, date code is 8442.)- Apple Green Phosphor Monitor A2M2010- Apple 5.25" Disk Drive A9M0107- Apple AIIE 80COL/64K MEMORY EXPANSION Card- Apple SUPER SERIAL CARD II Card- Apple I/O CONTROLLER Card- Orange Micro Grappler+ Printer Interface Card- Thunderware THUNDERCLOCK PLUS Card (non-functioning)
Right off the bat, I'm not an Apple II era expert—this is the only pre-Macintosh Apple I've ever owned—but I've done a fair bit of reading on different forums in an attempt to give the best description of the computer's condition that I can. If you have any questions, please send me a message and I'll add my answer to the listing.
I've given the computer itself as much of a cleaning as I could. I've taken it down to its individual parts (see pics) and cleaned each item separately. I think the motherboard looks great. I removed all the socketed chips on the motherboard and gave it a cleaning. I re-seated all of the chips after brushing down their pins and blowing out the sockets.
The bottom of the case had some rust spots so I sanded those down and polished the metal. I replaced the rubber feet on the bottom of the case.
I purchased a cap kit for the PSU and replaced all the electrolytics and the RIFA cap. (It's actually a combination of the kit's caps and my own since I had some with better specs than what they offered).
I've run all of the relevant tests in Apple Diagnostics (as well as the built-in tests, which passed). I've included pictures of some of the tests as I went through them.
The plastic case has section of some sort of pitting in the plastic on the right side, I've included a close-up shot of it.
I don't have all of the slot covers for the back of the case (see pics), so there are some slot openings which are open.
The monitor is an Apple A2M2010 Green Phosphor. It's got some scratches and nicks, but in overall good shape (please see pics). There's no kind of burn-in and it can be turned up to be very bright. I've attempted to get pictures all around the monitor, so please see the photos for an in-depth look at the case's condition.
I've had some trouble with the A9M0107 Disk Drive. I purchased it separately from the computer and monitor—I needed a drive to actually test the computer—and you can see it's color/style is different. I thought about not including the drive in this listing since I didn't want to make things confusing, but as I don't own any other Apple II computers, it wouldn't really be useful to me. The first issue I found with the drive was that it needed a head cleaning and then I discovered it needed a timing adjustment. I performed both of those and the drive started working, but I still get intermittent errors when it's been running for some time. It will try to load and crap out. Letting the drive sit for a while will get it to start working again.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING:In order to adequately protect all the parts (especially the CRT monitor), I had to pack it into two separate boxes. One contains the computer, drive, and cards (packed separately from the computer itself) while the other contains the monitor. The monitor is double boxed, i.e., bubble-wrapped a ton with a cardboard shell around it, then placed into a larger box with more packing material.
Due to the limitations of 's shipping calculator, you cannot estimate the shipping cost for more than one package. I had to use the shipping calculator and combine the weights to try and ballpark the cost of both packages together. Basically, if you want a better shipping estimate, you can either shoot me a message with your city and I'll use the calculator for both packages, or you can use the dimensions/weights listed here to calculate it yourself:
Box 1: 25" x 20" x 13" 26 poundsBox 2: 23" x 16" x 18" 27 pounds
They'll be shipping from the 90065 zip code (Los Angeles)
(Honestly, I had to buy like $70 worth of new cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, cello, and packing tape for all of this, but I'm not adding that as a handling charge since the shipping price is already going to be high. I realize I'm just going to take a bath on this anyway).
In short: If the TRUE shipping cost is lower than what you eventually pay, I will refund the difference. I will also make sure to check the box that gives me a label with the shipping cost on it so that you can see what I paid. If the shipping cost is more, then I guess I'll just have to eat that cost like the packing materials.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
This, like all of the other computers I've sold, is "AS IS". I'm not a technician or electrical engineer, I cannot give any kind of warranty. I've done my best to describe everything as accurately as I can and get pictures of everything relevant to the listing, but at the end of the day, I'm just going off of what I've read online!
NOTE: This is from a non-smoking household and was never stored outdoors (like in a garage or anything like that), no weird smells.
