Running at 10,000 RPM, they delivered faster seek times and sustained transfer rates suited to server and workstation workloads. Compaq deployed drives of this type across the ProLiant server line — including the ProLiant 1600, 3000, 5500, and ML series — as well as in high-end workstations. The 80-pin single connector (SCA-2 style) interface integrates power and data in one connection, simplifying hot-swap drive bays common in rack-mounted server enclosures of that era. These drives remain in use today wherever legacy SCSI infrastructure is still in service, and are sought by administrators maintaining older Compaq and HP ProLiant systems as direct replacement units.
