Dell PowerEdge R820 2U Rackmount Server
224GB ECC RAM | Dual Xeon | Quad 10GbE SFP+ | iDRAC7 Enterprise | SAS IT Mode
Used Dell PowerEdge R820 enterprise rackmount server, originally owned by Pulaski County, Arkansas, and acquired through a government surplus sale in 2024. Subsequently maintained, upgraded, and operated in a private homelab.
The server operated continuously under my ownership from approximately December 2025 through September 2026. It has since been decommissioned and prepared for resale.
All applicable system and component firmware has been updated to the latest available (terminal) releases for this hardware generation.

- SAS Controller: Flashed to IT-mode firmware for direct disk access, suitable for ZFS and other software-defined storage applications.
Condition and Operational History
This is used enterprise equipment with a history of government ownership followed by private homelab use. Its operational history prior to the 2024 surplus sale is unknown.
Following acquisition, the server was maintained and upgraded as described above. It operated continuously from approximately December 2025 through September 2026.
Following decommissioning, its hardware configuration and component health were reviewed through Dell iDRAC7 Enterprise.
Verified through iDRAC:
- Both Intel Xeon processors detected and reporting healthy.
- All 224GB of installed memory detected and reporting healthy.
- Both 1100W power supplies detected and reporting healthy.
- All six cooling fans operational, with full fan redundancy reported.
- iDRAC7 Enterprise license active.
- Overall system health indicators green.
Note: The server has dual power supplies, but power redundancy depends on the installed configuration and electrical load.
Normal cosmetic wear consistent with the equipment's age and previous rack installation may be present. Although the server has an established operational history, not every individual port, expansion slot, or subsystem has been independently tested following decommissioning.
Please review the photographs and iDRAC screenshots for hardware configuration and physical condition.

Additional Information
Hardware specifications have been verified against an inventory exported directly from Dell iDRAC.
The SAS controller's IT-mode firmware and substantial ECC memory capacity make this configuration particularly suitable for virtualization, ZFS-based storage, and other homelab applications.
This is an older enterprise platform. Its firmware is current with the final available releases, but ongoing manufacturer support or future firmware updates should not be assumed.
Please review the photographs, specifications, and included/excluded items carefully. Questions about configuration or operational history are welcome before purchase.
