A distinctive piece of early-2010s enthusiast PC hardware. This GIGABYTE Super Overclock combines a factory-overclocked NVIDIA GTX 580 with a substantial triple-fan cooler, specialized power circuitry, visible status lighting, and selectable BIOS modes intended for very different kinds of use.

For a period PC build or a collection of notable enthusiast graphics cards, its appeal goes beyond the GTX 580 name. The blue circuit board, WINDFORCE 3X cooler, rear power-status LEDs, and BIOS-selection button reflect an era when premium cards gave hands-on overclockers more hardware to work with.

CONDITION AND TESTING

Used. This card completed GLMark2 functional graphics tests in both BIOS modes: SOC Default and LN2. The supplied September 24, 2026 test report records an overall PASS, a 31-second graphics test, completion of all selected rendering workloads, and no visible artifacts observed. The report does not identify the selected BIOS mode; testing in both modes is separately confirmed by the seller. The blue/red BIOS indicators and green rear LEDs operated during testing. The photographs show the actual card being offered. Visible dust, marks, and age-related wear are present; please review the photographs closely.

The testing described establishes operation during those functional test runs. This card has not been tested by the seller with liquid-nitrogen cooling, and no maximum overclock or long-term stability at modified settings is promised.

A FACTORY-OVERCLOCKED FERMI ENTHUSIAST CARD

The GTX 580 was a high-end member of NVIDIA’s Fermi generation. This Super Overclock model was specified by GIGABYTE with an 855 MHz core clock, 1,536 MB of GDDR5 memory, a 384-bit memory interface, and a 4,100 MHz effective memory clock. Those are the manufacturer’s original specifications, rather than a claim that every operating parameter was independently measured during the present testing.

Its natural audience today includes collectors, period gaming-PC builders, and enthusiasts interested in the hardware history of competitive GPU overclocking. Software and operating-system compatibility should be checked for the intended build.

TWO BIOS MODES — WHAT THE BUTTON AND COLORS MEAN

Blue indicator — SOC Default BIOS: the normal operating BIOS for this Super Overclock model. “Default” here refers to the card’s normal factory configuration, which was already overclocked relative to a reference GTX 580.

Red indicator — LN2 BIOS: the alternate BIOS intended for extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen. LN2 is the correct term: it means liquid nitrogen. It is a specialist feature, rather than an automatic everyday performance boost.

At extremely low temperatures, graphics hardware can develop a “cold bug” or have difficulty starting at all. In this context, a cold-boot issue means starting hardware under extreme subzero cooling. The alternate LN2 BIOS was designed for that kind of benchmarking environment. Merely selecting it does not cool the card or demonstrate that this particular unit has been tested under those conditions.

The alternate startup screen can display “Engineering Release - Not For Production Use.” GIGABYTE documented this behavior for this model’s alternate BIOS. That message alone does not identify the physical card as an engineering sample or prototype; this listing makes no such claim.

THE LIGHTS ON THE BACK ARE FUNCTIONAL

The green LEDs on the rear of the circuit board indicate activity associated with the card’s power phases. They are part of the original enthusiast-oriented hardware design. The blue/red BIOS indicator identifies the selected BIOS mode. These lights serve status functions and should not be confused with a modern programmable RGB lighting system.

BUILT FOR HANDS-ON TUNING

GIGABYTE equipped this model with a 14-phase PWM power design, voltage-measurement points, and five NEC Proadlizer components. These features were intended to support cleaner, more stable power delivery and give experienced overclockers additional monitoring and tuning capability.

The model was also marketed with GIGABYTE’s GPU Gauntlet Sorting process. That describes its original selection and product positioning; it is not a guarantee of the overclock this individual, aged card will achieve today.

WINDFORCE 3X COOLING

The fitted WINDFORCE 3X assembly uses three fans with a substantial heatsink, heatpipes, and vapor-chamber cooling. This is a large enthusiast card: check the available expansion-slot area, case clearance, and airflow before purchase.
