• Fitted a brand-new battery. Not a used one at 80-something percent — a new pack reporting 99.8% of design capacity on zero charge cycles. On a machine this age that is the single thing most likely to be worn out, and here it simply is not.
• Fitted a 512GB NVMe SSD at 94% health with its thermal pad — the pad is the part most often left off, and it matters for sustained speed.
• Clean Windows 11 Pro. Installed from clean media, activated, updated and tested, then sealed so it arrives at the out-of-box setup screen and the first account created on it is yours. No bloatware, no accounts of ours.
• Wiped. The drive was repartitioned and Windows installed fresh, so nothing of any previous owner remains.
• Measured the wear parts rather than estimating them. The battery and drive figures above are what the hardware reports.

Cosmetic condition

Good — normal light handling marks for a business machine, nothing that affects how it works. It sits flat, the hinges are firm, the screen is clear and the keyboard works correctly. The photos are of the exact machine you will receive, shot close up rather than at a flattering angle.

What to know before you buy

The memory is soldered and cannot be changed. The X280 has no memory slot at all — what is fitted is what it has for life, and that is 8GB. For web, email, office work and a sensible number of browser tabs that is fine. If you know you need 16GB, buy a different machine rather than this one; we would rather say so now than have it come back.

It is a 12.5" machine. That is the point of it — around 2.5 lbs, genuinely carryable all day — but it is a small screen. If you work on one display all day you may want something larger.

No charger is included. It charges over USB-C Power Delivery, so any 65W USB-C charger works — the one from a recent laptop, or a $20 charger from anywhere. We would rather not charge you for a spare you probably already own, but you do need one.

Warranty & returns. 30 days. If it fails in that window, send it back and we refund you in full. This machine is out of Lenovo factory coverage, so our 30 days is the warranty.
