Will not work without an NEC phone system controller. Typically used on SV8100, SV9100, SV8300 or SV9300 but works on a few others systems. This is an IP, VoIP phone. It requires you to log into the phones system and program it. You should not expect to just plug it in and work, unless your system is setup to do that. Will not work on a plain phone line.
