NEC PC-8001 - NEC's first personal computer, released in Japan in 1979. Tested working, with photographic proof.
The PC-8001 is the machine that put NEC at the top of the Japanese personal computer market and set the direction for the whole PC-88 line that followed. It runs Microsoft BASIC on a Z80-compatible uPD780C, and the boot screen still reads "Copyright 1979 (C) by Microsoft" - a genuine artifact of very early Microsoft.
*** TESTED WORKING - WITH PROOF ***Three screen photos are included:
1. Boot screen: "NEC PC-8001 BASIC Ver 1.0 / Copyright 1979 (C) by Microsoft / Ok"2. A short program entered from the keyboard: 10 FOR I=1 TO 5:PRINT I:NEXT3. LIST returns the program from memory, and RUN executes it and prints 1 2 3 4 5 followed by Ok
That sequence shows the ROM BASIC boots, the keyboard works, the RAM stores and returns a program, and the interpreter executes it.

NOT INCLUDED: no monitor, no cassette recorder, no floppy drive, no expansion unit, no software, no manuals. The monitor in the photos is not part of this sale and is shown only to demonstrate that the machine works.
PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING- AC 100V, Japanese domestic voltage. The rear panel is marked AC100V. Outside Japan you will need a step-down transformer. It will not run safely on 230V.- Video output is composite, for a Japanese NTSC monitor or TV. A compatible display is required.- With no cassette or disk drive included, what you can do out of the box is write and run BASIC programs from the keyboard. There is no way to load or save software as supplied.

CONDITION- Tested working as described above.- The case is clean for its age, with light handling marks. No cracks, no broken tabs.- All keycaps are present, legends are clear and the keys are not visibly worn.- The power LED lights green.- NOT TESTED: the cassette (CMT) interface, the printer port, the expansion bus, and the individual response of every key. Sold as tested and described.
