New York at Its Best Compton's NewMedia BIG BOX CD-ROM NEW SEALED DOS Windows
Rare vintage New York at Its Best multimedia CD-ROM from Compton's NewMedia, offered in the original BIG BOX and still BRAND NEW / FACTORY SEALED.
Part of Compton's early multimedia travel series, New York at Its Best was created as an electronic travel and city reference for business travelers, tourists and armchair travelers exploring New York.
Period documentation describes the series as providing reviews of places to stay and eat along with highlights of the city's landmarks, sights and culture.
This original Compton's NewMedia release is especially interesting from a vintage-computing standpoint because it uses Sony Multiple Operating System Technology (MOST), which allowed the multimedia CD-ROM to operate across multiple platforms.

Period CD-ROM catalogs confirm New York at Its Best as a Compton's NewMedia title and identify it as a DOS/Windows multimedia release.
This is an excellent surviving example of the early multimedia era, when publishers were beginning to replace traditional printed travel guides with searchable electronic information stored on CD-ROM.
The factory-sealed big-box condition makes this considerably more desirable to collectors than a loose or previously used disc and gives it crossover appeal to collectors of vintage computers, early multimedia, New York memorabilia, vintage travel material and Sony multimedia technology.
The original factory seal remains intact. Software has never been opened or tested.
Please review all photographs carefully for the exact condition of the original big box and factory shrink wrap. DOS, Windows and Sony Multimedia CD-ROM Player compatibility information is taken directly from the original packaging. Due to the age of this software, compatibility with modern computers is not guaranteed.
