There are Different Types of SD-RAM, R-DRAM and DDR Memory.
Different Speeds, High Density / Low Density, ECC / Non-ECC, Registered and So On.
Other Issues are Very Simple Quality Issues. Name Brand Memory Uses Name Brand Chips
( i.e. Nanya, Crucial, Hynix, Elpida Samsung, Kingston Etc.)

Being In the Computer Business for over 20 Years We Would Say Memory Never "Goes Bad".
Low Quality or CHEAP Memory Uses Industry Rejects and Cheaper NO NAME Chips.
They Are Bad or Junk to Begin with and Will Die During Normal Everyday Use.
Also People Can Overheat or Damage the Chips, but During Normal Use Memory Outlives the Computer.
What Type of Memory Your Computer Can Use Depends on the Chipset and the Bios and Even What Memory You Already Have Installed.

RDRAM Needs to Be installed in Matched Pairs.
That Means (2) Chips with Exactly the Same Specifications.
(Please Note Some Memory Is Sold As Only (1) Chip. You Will Need Your Own Match to Use It)
(Best if SAME Brand or Exactly the SAME Chips)
RDRAM Needs All Slot Filled With Either Memory Chips or CRIMM (Dummy Chips)
Most Desktops / Motherboards That Use RDRAM are Very Specific.
They Use One Speed of RDRAM and Will Not Use any Other.
For Example 800-45 May Not Work in 800-40 Systems.
IT WILL NOT WORK Together.
All Memory Must Be the SAME SPEED / TYPE To Be Used Together
Please Do Your Research To Find Out What Memory Your Computer / Motherboard Can Use.
Do Not Expect to Mix and Match Speeds or Even ECC with Non-ECC.
