Vintage Sun Microsystems SPARCstation 2 workstation, Model 147B (Sun 4/75). The unit shown in the photos is the unit for sale. Please review all photos for its cosmetic condition and installed components.
The workstation powers on and produces a video image. At startup, it identifies itself as a SPARCstation 2, detects the keyboard, and reports 64 MB of installed memory. The OpenBoot probe-scsi command detects the installed Seagate ST1480N SCSI hard drive at Target 3, Unit 0.
Internal photos show the Seagate hard drive, a Sun GX graphics card, and a Network Peripherals SBus DAS expansion card. These photos are provided so you can see the installed hardware. The expansion card and other individual components have not been separately tested.
The workstation does not successfully boot an operating system. It displays “The IDPROM contents are invalid.” Attempting boot disk produces a checksum error followed by “Illegal Instruction,” then returns to the ok prompt. The cause has not been diagnosed, and the condition of the data on the hard drive is unknown.
This is a vintage system offered AS IS for parts, repair, or restoration. It has been tested only as described above. The Acer monitor used to display the test results is not included. Please refer to the photos for cosmetic wear and the exact items included.
