The D820 uses direct thermal printing technology, eliminating traditional ink cartridges and toner. It supports standard 8.5" × 11" US Letter thermal paper as well as narrower thermal media from approximately 2" to 8.5" wide.

Its compact, rechargeable design makes it particularly useful for mobile offices, business travel, vehicles, school, home offices and other situations where a conventional desktop printer isn't practical.
