For sale is an originalTandy 1000 TLvintage desktop computer from the late 1980s.
This is the original1000 TL, not the later TL/2 or TL/3. The TL was one of the stronger machines in the Tandy 1000 family, combining anIntel 80286 processor, enhancedTandy graphics, andTandy soundin a highly compatible DOS platform.
This machine has beencleaned, serviced, tested, and verified working.
Testing & Service Performed
The system was powered on and tested through normal operation.
Verified functions include:
- Powers on normally
- Completes POST
- Stable RGB video output
- Proper color Tandy graphics
- DeskMate 3 loads and operates correctly
- 3.5-inch floppy drive serviced and tested
- Included 3.5-inch system disks tested
- Keyboard input tested during operation
- System remained stable during extended testing
During troubleshooting, the system was found to be configured in the TL’s monochrome/Hercules-compatible monitor mode. The factoryCtrl + Alt + Shift + Vmonitor-mode toggle was used to return it to normal color Tandy operation.
This was a configuration setting, not a hardware failure.
Restoration / Service Notes
Work performed on this system included general cleaning and inspection along with servicing and testing of the floppy subsystem.
The computer was opened, inspected, cleaned, and tested before sale.
The3.5-inch floppy drive has been serviced and verified workingwith the included system disks.
The original motherboard battery was also inspected during service.

The Tandy 1000 TL is a more powerful base machine than the earlier SL/2.
The TL uses an8 MHz 80286, while the SL/2 uses an8 MHz 8086. The TL also comes with640 KB RAM standard, supports additional video memory, and includes a built-in real-time clock.
This particular TL has been serviced and tested, including its 3.5-inch floppy drive.
Unlike my upgraded Tandy 1000 SL/2 listing, however, this TL doesnotcurrently include anXT-IDE/CompactFlash storage upgrade or a 5.25-inch floppy drive.
Cosmetic Condition
This is a vintage computer and shows normal age-related cosmetic wear.
