The Vintage Tandy WP-2 Portable Word Processor is a rare find from Japan, offering a glimpse into the early days of computing. This laptop, with the Tandy brand known for its reliability and durability, is a unique piece for collectors or enthusiasts of vintage computing. The fact that it is in working condition adds to its value and appeal, making it a prized item for those seeking a piece of computing history.
I used this Tandy WP-2 to take notes while visiting clients back in the 90's. I wasn't "important" enough to justify a laptop back in those days so we used the WP-2 to capture notes and then downloaded them to the Macintosh computer back in the office. The homemade interface cable is long gone but all of my notes are still there if you want to make another and do file transfers to a Macintosh or Windows computer. I remember my daughter bragging to her friends that her dad could make 2 computers talk to each other!
This WP-2 is in excellent condition! The battery compartment is free from corrosion and it has a new backup battery. I fired it up and did a little typing and checked out a few of the menus just to make sure everything was working. These WP-2's show up every once in a while and their conditions varies widely. This one has been carefully displayed (without batteries) on my office shelves for the last 30 years and its condition reflects that care. If you want one to use for taking notes or just to add to your early computer technology collection, this WP-2 is truly a rare find. If you are looking for a collection piece or a novelty gift for a techno geek, engineer, scientist, propeller head, nerd, etc., then this could be perfect for a birthday or Christmas.
