What does a Docking Station or Port Replicator do for me?
The key purpose in a docking station is to reduce wear and tear on your notebook. When used in a home or office setting, many notebook users often have several devices plugged into their notebook. The docking station allows you to keep those devices installed for your notebook to use, but minimize the amount of times you have to plug / unplug those devices into the back or sides of your notebook.
Wear and strain to the connections on the back of your notebook are some of the leading causes of damaged / broken notebooks. Specifically, the internal motherboard assembly on which those rear connections are mounted to.
