new, never used. opened it once to verify that I screwed up and bought an internal hdd rather than an external ssd. it went back into the box, which went into another box, which went on a shelf in a climate controlled room and faded from all memory for roughly a year.I've opened it a second time to verify that the rough packaging wasn't an indication of roughed up contents. all product protection packaging is in place, and the hdd is in a static bag that has never been opened.check the Amazon price and ask yourself if getting it for $50 cheaper than a new one (if it's in stock) is the decision you want to make.
