Description:

Windows Vista Beta 2, officially Build 5384.4, was released to Microsoft Developer Network subscribers and Connect testers on May 23, 2006, and made publicly available via free download on June 6, 2006.Key details of the release include:

• Significance: It was the first Vista build available to the general public, with over 5 million downloads in its first week, described by some as the "largest download event in software history."

• Features: The build introduced the Aero glass user interface, Windows Sidebar gadgets (enabled by default), Windows Search 4.0, and enhanced security features like User Account Control (UAC) and Windows Defender.

• System Requirements: It required a 1-GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a DirectX 9-compatible graphics card with 128MB of memory to run the Aero interface.

Reception: Reviews noted a refined, visually appealing interface and better security, but criticized high system requirements, intrusive security prompts, and occasional instability or driver conflicts typical of beta software.
